The Amur tiger hunts less often because the prey is stored longer in winter. This was announced on April 4 by Sergey Aramilev, General Director of the Amur Tiger Center.

"It is more convenient for a tiger to gain weight in winter. This is due to the fact that in the conditions of the Russian winter, the hunted animal is stored as in a refrigerator, and the tiger can live next to the hunted victim for 10-15 days without wasting energy on transitions," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

At the same time, in summer, according to Aramilev, the prey rots quickly, and therefore the Amur tiger has to hunt more often.

On March 21, Aramilev named the number of Amur tigers in Russia. The population of the Red book animal in the country is more than 750 individuals. The expert also added that the number of tigers decreased three years ago due to the effects of African swine fever.
