The Ukrainian Embassy in Lima, the capital of Peru, which is responsible for Kiev's relations with Ecuador and Colombia, deleted information from its website about the recruitment of Latin Americans to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on April 4.

"Currently, the Volunteerism section of the website, which redirected Internet users to another portal with information for candidates for mercenaries, is inactive," RIA Novosti said in a statement.

The article also states that Latin American mercenaries in Ukraine are used as "cannon fodder": they are treated poorly at the front, and in the event of their death, relatives are not compensated.

The Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA of the Russian Federation), Rodion Miroshnik, said on March 12 that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had recruited up to 5,000 mercenaries from Latin American countries. According to him, the mobilized Ukrainians are fleeing from shopping malls (territorial recruitment centers, an analogue of the military enlistment office in Ukraine), "training camps", from the battlefield — they need to be replaced by someone. There is a significant advantage in recruiting mercenaries: foreigners have a long way to run. In order to leave the battlefield, they must first leave the territory of Ukraine, and this is not always possible.
