Scott Ritter, a former U.S. Marine Corps intelligence analyst, told Izvestia on April 4 about the uncertainty in society and the long-standing conflict in the circles of America's highest military command.

He noted that the reason for the resignations of generals in the American army may be related to their disagreement with President Donald Trump's position on the need to deploy ground forces in the Middle East.

"We see some tension inside the country. We don't know why, but we can assume that this is due to a possible disagreement about the president's plans for Iran and the possible deployment of ground forces there," the military said.

The expert noted that against the background of the purges, the position of the American leader remains unclear. At the same time, an ordinary resident of the United States cannot understand Trump's intentions, which change every day.

"As a U.S. citizen, it's impossible to determine because the president changes his mind on a daily basis," Ritter said.

He pointed out that the true reason for the dismissal of the generals is currently unknown. The foreign policy context may suggest the impact of the ongoing operation in Iran on this decision. At the same time, as Ritter noted, there is a long-standing tension in the US Department of Defense between the Minister of Defense and other senior military leadership of the country.

"These contradictions go back to October last year, when he (U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. — Ed.) gathered 800 senior executives in Quantico, Virginia, to lecture them as if they were children," the analyst noted.
