- The Russian Foreign Ministry called out the requirements for a candidate for the post of UN Secretary General
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) called the rejection of double standards, equidistance of position and ensuring a healthy interstate dialogue the main Russian requirements for a candidate for the post of Secretary General of the United Nations (UN). This was announced on April 4 by Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"As the main task, the future UN Secretary General should ensure conditions for a healthy interstate dialogue, engage in mediation, and not try on the role of a judge or supreme arbitrator that is not attached to his position," the diplomat said in a column for TASS.
The Director of the Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that the list of requirements is pragmatic, based on common sense and in strict accordance with the UN Charter.
The Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Tatiana Moskalkova, announced on April 3 that she had contacted the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights after Poland's decision on the admissibility of the extradition of Russian archaeologist Alexander Butyagin to Ukraine. According to Moskalkova, this initiative against the archaeologist is political persecution, since extradition is prohibited by international standards.
