The Chertanovsky court of Moscow extended the arrest of three defendants in the criminal case of car theft involving Bentley for three months — the attackers had been terrorizing insurance companies for several years, provoking accidents with heavy truck drivers. This was announced on April 3 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

It is noted that the defense of the defendants petitioned to change the preventive measure to a more lenient one.

According to investigators, the defendants earned millions of rubles from fake accidents. Accidents were adjusted due to flaws in the rules governing roundabouts. So, the leader of a gang of scammers drove a 2007 Bentley to intersections and tried to get in next to a turning truck. Then he cut it off so that the driver of the heavy truck could not avoid a collision.

From January 2019 to November 2022, the gang staged 53 accidents. In 42 cases, the fraudsters received insurance payments of 12 million rubles. In addition, the defendants managed to sue their victims from 300 thousand to 2 million rubles.

In October 2024, the Chertanovsky District Court held its first hearing in the case of fraudsters who caused accidents involving luxury foreign cars. A criminal case was opened after dozens of injured drivers and insurance companies filed complaints with the police. The investigators qualified the actions of the accused as insurance fraud as part of an organized criminal group on an especially large scale. It was clarified that all three defendants have higher legal education.
