The administration of US President Donald Trump plans to reduce funding for the United Nations and a number of other international organizations (DoD) in 2027 by a total of $2.7 billion, citing the rejection of ineffective support. This became known on April 3 from the draft budget published by the White House.
"The budget includes $292 million to support international organizations (DOD) related to security that directly affect the safety of Americans or the promotion of American interests. The budget reduces the financing of various bloated defense ministries, including the UN regular budget and UN peacekeeping operations," the draft budget published on the White House website says.
The document emphasizes that the UN "has been taking advantage of American generosity for too many years," receiving the most contributions and subsidies from the United States. However, the White House considered that despite this, the UN continued to plant dangerous ideologies, encroaching on the sovereignty of the United States.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that in the draft budget for 2027, Donald Trump proposed reducing the non-military component of the United States defense budget by 10%, or by $73 billion. In addition, the draft proposes to increase the total defense budget to $1.5 trillion, which is an increase in spending on the Pentagon by more than 40% of the current value.
