- The prosecutor's office opposed the termination of the case against football player Smolov
The state prosecution asks the court to refuse the petition of the victim Vladimir Kuzminov to terminate the criminal case in connection with the reconciliation of the parties against football player Fyodor Smolov for a fight in a cafe. This was announced on April 3 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.
"It should be noted that Smolov is a public figure, a former player of the Russian national team. By his actions, he discredits the image of the athlete," the prosecutor said.
Earlier, the football player's lawyer Varvara Knutova reported that Smolov had entered into a settlement agreement with the victim. She also stated that the athlete had paid the victim 4 million rubles.
The initiation of a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 112 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Intentional infliction of moderate harm to health, not life-threatening") against a football player became known on September 10.
Businessman Andrey Popelukha, who became a participant in the fight, told Izvestia at the same time that the conflict between the two men and Smolov in the "Coffee Mania" occurred after they refused to have the athlete pay their bill amid the noisy behavior of his company. The athlete's wife Karina Istomina reported that Smolov, after a conflict with customers in a cafe, repented and apologized to the victims, and also offered to pay them compensation.
