A Nizhny Novgorod pensioner who sold an apartment to businessman Bari Alibasov Jr. continues to sue for real estate — an expert examination was ordered on her claim. This was confirmed on April 3 by court materials available to Izvestia.
We are talking about real estate in the center of Nizhny Novgorod, which Alibasov Jr. acquired in 2024 by issuing a power of attorney to the director of a local real estate agency. According to the businessman, the landlady of the apartment behaved adequately and claimed that she was going to live with her lover abroad.
Shortly after the transaction, the woman contacted the police and stated that she had become a victim of scams. The apartment was arrested, and a criminal case was opened into the incident. Alibasov Jr., commenting on the incident, claimed that he himself had become a victim of fraudsters, and also suggested that the pensioner might be involved in their schemes.
The woman hoped to invalidate the purchase and sale transaction. In 2025, the court reviewed her claim and denied the claims, to which the defense filed an appeal. At the moment, the proceedings in the case are suspended until the results of the examination are ready. Alibasov Jr. and a man who is described in the media as the founder of a real estate agency are among the defendants.
On December 4 last year, Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, appealed to the Federal Register with a request to consider extending the period of state registration of housing transactions that belong to people of retirement age. The corresponding idea, as noted, arose against the background of the spread of the so-called "grandmother's scheme".
In November 2025, Oleg Silkin, a real estate lawyer, commenting on real estate scams, urged Russians to follow the principle from the novel "12 Chairs" when dealing with real estate, in which money for what they purchased was always required in advance.
