Three Russian vessels will be granted safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz
Three Russian vessels will be granted unhindered passage through the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported to Izvestia on April 3 by an Iranian diplomatic source.
According to him, Tehran considers Russia a friendly country. If negotiations on de-escalation of the conflict in the Middle East begin, Iran will notify Moscow about this, the source said.
"If Russia has initiatives for negotiations, the Iranian side will be ready to consider them," he stressed.
Speaking about the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Izvestia source said that the Islamic Republic is preparing a bill on the rules of passage for ships. A list of countries that can pass through the strait will also appear.
"The passage to the aggressor countries will be prohibited. Friendly countries, including Russia, will be allowed passage," the source added.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharib-Abadi said yesterday that the new access regime for the Strait of Hormuz will require rules for the passage of military and commercial vessels, and it is too early to talk about duties. The document being developed will also include a section on the responsibility of coastal States for ensuring the safe passage of ships. He added that Iran and Oman should assume responsibility for ensuring the safety of ships passing through the strait.
CNN said on April 1 that Iran's continued control of the Strait of Hormuz after the end of the war would be regarded by the international community as a strategic failure by the United States. It is noted that in this scenario, Iran will try to "monetize its new position" by imposing duties on tankers traveling through the strait.
