Competence and stable results do not always lead to career growth. Alexander Petrov, a profiler and expert in the field of operational psychology, told Izvestia about this on April 6, explaining the reasons why talented employees can stay in the same positions for years.

"You can show high results, but not look like a person who is ready for the next level. The manager evaluates not only the effectiveness, but also the potential — the ability to take on more responsibility," the expert noted.

The specialist added that many employees get stuck in the role of performers: they fix problems, but do not offer solutions, perform tasks, but do not show strategic thinking. As a result, the management does not consider them as candidates for promotion.

Another limiting factor is the so-called "expert trap". Deep immersion in the profession can hinder the transition to managerial functions, and companies are in no hurry to promote strong specialists so as not to lose them in their current role.

Petrov stressed that communication plays an important role. Even strong ideas can go unnoticed if an employee does not know how to convey them correctly to management and speak in a language they understand.

"An employee may be absolutely right, but if he speaks in a "different language," he simply won't be heard. The higher the level of the manager, the more he is focused on strategy, not on details," he said.

In addition, managers perceive information in different ways: some are focused on structure and control, while others are focused on results or team relationships. There is no universal way to present ideas.

"Career growth depends not only on professional skills, but also on the ability to go beyond your own worldview and learn to speak with management in a language they understand," the expert concluded.

Veronika Akhmetova, a psychologist and member of the Association for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, reported on March 11 that working with artificial intelligence (AI) can cause depression and burnout among employees if interaction with the system is not built correctly. According to her, frequent interaction with AI can lead to depression and emotional burnout for several reasons. First of all, this is due to the loss of the meaning of work.
