The share of Russian-built cars exceeded 60% of the market in March for the first time since 2023

By the end of March 2026, the share of Russian-built cars exceeded 60% of the market for the first time since 2023. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on April 3. He shared the key events on the Russian car market in the first month of spring.

Thus, the car market in March amounted to a record 31% compared to March last year and 30% compared to February this year. At the same time, sales of Lada cars did not increase by March last year, respectively, the brand lost a share, said Tselikov.

Haval, the leading brand among foreign cars, increased sales by more than 50% and occupied almost 15% of the car market. At the same time, Toyota regained its leadership among alternative brands, rising to the sixth position in the sales ranking. And Mazda, which unexpectedly found itself in the top of the most popular brands in January-February, dropped out of the top 10 brands in terms of sales of new cars in the country.

In addition, according to Autostat, the Russian manufacturer of electric cars and hybrids, the Evolve brand, entered the top 15 of the Russian car market for the first time in its history. The total share of electric cars (BEV) and hybrids (PHEV) exceeded 9%.

The share of global brands in sales decreased by 1.2 percentage points: 14.7% in March versus 15.9% in February. Nevertheless, this result was significantly higher than in March last year (6.4%).

Earlier in the day, it was reported that 104.3 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia in the first spring month of 2026, which is 30.6% more than in March 2025. This result was the best since the beginning of 2026. By the end of March this year, Lada Granta family cars continue to excel in the Russian car market: in early spring, 9861 units of Granta cars were sold, including those produced on its basis.
