The study showed the demand for teaching neural networks to children in elementary grades

The <url> educational platform conducted a study of parents' expectations regarding children's digital skills in elementary school. Every second adult believes that additional training in working with neural networks should begin in elementary grades. The survey data was reviewed on April 5 by Izvestia.

Only 10% of children actually use artificial intelligence (AI), while 43% of parents would like minors to be able to work with it by the end of the fourth grade. At the same time, some adults turn to neural networks to help their child study secretly in order to maintain the habit of thinking independently.

Parents have formed a base of digital skills that, in their opinion, are important for the child: 55% expect the ability to work with text, 53% — to search for and critically evaluate information, 51% — to create presentations, 44% — to process photos and videos. At the same time, interviews with children show that their own interests are shifted towards creating games, programming, and video editing. Already 48% of primary school students are learning these skills as part of additional education, combining interest with practice.

In addition, parents pay attention to online security. So, 54% discuss the rules of online behavior with children, 43% restrict the installation of applications, use child mode or screen time limits. The main risks that adults worry about are unwanted content (76%), contact with strangers (69%), social media fraud (68%) and Internet addiction (58%).

On March 22, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov (LDPR) proposed the creation of an institute for the protection of citizens' rights in cooperation with AI technologies. According to him, the new body will be able to receive complaints about decisions related to artificial intelligence, analyze algorithm errors and cases of fake news. The Institute's tasks also include preparing recommendations for the safe implementation of AI in business and government structures.
