Lack of patriotism is the reason for the desertion of Ukrainian soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on April 3 by Maxim Pischur, a Ukrainian prisoner of war, commander of the 119th separate Air Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"There is no such patriotism as there used to be. At the beginning [of the fighting] there was still some kind of patriotism. And now <...> it's easier for him to surrender or desert," Pischur said in an interview with TASS.

According to the prisoner of war, his unit had been in position for 180 days, and therefore it made no sense for the Ukrainian soldiers to stay in place.

On March 30, Russian law enforcement agencies reported that an AFU soldier who planned to surrender committed suicide after being pressured by the Ukrainian command in the Krasnopol direction in the Sumy region.
