Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg agreed in 2021 to discuss the creation of a buffer zone between Russia and the countries of the bloc. This was reported by the NRA newspaper on April 2.
"Despite the objections of Poland and the Baltic states, Stoltenberg proposed to the NATO—Russia Council to discuss the Kremlin's idea of creating a buffer zone and withdrawing alliance forces to positions that existed before 1997," the article says.
