Iran revealed details about the new access regime in the Strait of Hormuz
The new access regime for the Strait of Hormuz will provide rules for the passage of military and commercial vessels, it is too early to talk about duties. This was announced on April 2 by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharib-Abadi in an interview with Sputnik radio.
"The protocol that I mentioned covers a wide variety of aspects. One of them is to determine the order of passage of warships through the strait. Special rules and conditions for commercial vessels will be outlined separately <...> All these issues are currently being worked out, and, of course, when we reach an understanding with Oman, this will be announced. It is too early to talk about specific tariffs and the amount of these fees, as well as whether they will be charged," he said.
According to Gharib-Abadi, the document being developed will also include a section on the responsibility of coastal States for ensuring the safe passage of ships. He added that Iran and Oman should assume responsibility for ensuring the safety and passage of ships through the strait.
The Deputy Head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry mentioned that there is another point — it is the responsibility and responsibilities of a number of countries whose flag ships fly, and the owners of ships. In cases where coastal countries provide certain services to these vessels, the owners of these vessels and the countries must compensate for this.
On April 2, Bloomberg reported on the tanker, which entered the waters of the Strait of Hormuz, for the first time since the beginning of the actions of the United States and Israel in the Middle East. A ship carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) has entered the waters of the Strait of Hormuz and is moving towards the export terminal in Oman.
CNN said on April 1 that Iran's continued control of the Strait of Hormuz after the end of the war would be regarded by the international community as a strategic failure by the United States. It is noted that in this scenario, Iran will try to "monetize its new position" by imposing duties on tankers traveling through the strait.
