Szijjarto called Ukraine's attack on the Turkish Stream a blow to Hungary's sovereignty

The attack by Ukrainian drones on the Turkish Stream gas pipeline is a gross encroachment on Hungary's sovereignty. This was announced on April 2 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

"What happened today, my friends? Ukraine has again used drones to attack the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, which is responsible for natural gas supplies to Hungary. This is a very harsh attack on Hungary's sovereignty, because this encroachment on the security of energy supply is an encroachment on sovereignty," the Hungarian Foreign Minister said in a video posted on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in the territory of the Russian Federation).

Szijjarto added that Brussels is again trying to drag Hungary into an unnecessary war. According to the Hungarian politician, when he and the head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry asked for permission to allow their experts to inspect Druzhba, they received the answer that "Hungarians and Slovaks should send soldiers to Ukraine, not experts."

On the same day, Peter Szijjarto stated that the EU's energy policy has become hostage to ideological decisions, while energy supply issues should not be based on them. The diplomat added that Kiev is committing a crime against Budapest by subjecting Hungarians to an oil and energy blockade.

European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen announced on March 16 that the EC wants to ban Slovakia and Hungary from importing oil from Russia. On the same day, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced the joint construction of a new oil pipeline with Slovakia, which will ensure interstate energy security. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to create a 127 km trench through which 1.5 million tons of petroleum products can be transported.
