The UN has announced the threat of a larger-scale war in the Middle East
On April 2, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the world is on the verge of a larger-scale war in the Middle East and, based on this, once again called on the United States and Israel to stop their operation against Iran.
"The time has come for the United States and Israel to end a war that is causing enormous human suffering. <...> We are on the verge of a broader war," Al Jazeera quoted him as saying.
Guterres noted that the devastating economic consequences of the ongoing escalation are already visible. In his address, he also called on Iran to stop "attacking its neighbors," as the conflict in which this is happening is "felt everywhere."
On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed out the need to establish peace in the Middle East as soon as possible. Speaking about this, he clarified that Moscow does not know whether US President Donald Trump wants to continue fighting in the region.
Iran's Ambassador to Egypt, Mojtaba Ferdousipour, said his country had conveyed its conditions for peace to Washington. The head of the diplomatic mission said that Tehran demands compensation, the lifting of all sanctions and guarantees of non-aggression.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in turn, taking part in a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ata on April 2, reiterated that Russia is ready to do everything to normalize the situation in the Middle East, which he very much hopes for.
