- The media learned about the instruction to EC officials to delete the chat in Signal due to fears of hacking
The heads of departments of the European Commission (EC) and their deputies were ordered to stop interacting in the encrypted messenger Signal after a series of cyber attacks on the internal communications of the European Union (EU). This was reported by the Politico newspaper on April 1.
"The heads and deputy heads of departments were in a group chat in Signal. However, against the background of a series of accusations of espionage against the EU, they were notified of the ban on discussing work issues in the messenger," the article says.
Sven Herpig, an employee of the German analytical center for information security Interface, said that cyber attacks aimed at European politicians have recently become more and more "qualitative and quantitative." At the same time, the expert noted that political parties and figures around the world have always been the target of close surveillance and espionage.
The director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Cash Patel, announced on March 20 that the Signal messenger was allegedly hacked by Russian hackers. He added that hacking the messenger will allow hackers to have access to thousands of accounts. At the same time, Patel did not provide any evidence in favor of hacking by Russian hackers.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
