The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed to install the Aurora OS on all cars

Anton Alikhanov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, suggested exploring the possibility of pre-installing the domestic Aurora operating system on cars imported into the country.

"As soon as the operating system meets the market requirements, we believe that colleagues from the Ministry of Finance, FSTEC, and the FSB will need to talk about the pre—installation requirements," RIA Novosti quoted Alikhanov as saying.

The minister noted that cars should be subject to a rule on pre-installing Russian software, similar to what applies to foreign smartphones.

Alikhanov also clarified that the operating system installed in cars does not necessarily have to be Aurora — it can be any other OS that will meet the requirements, including cybersecurity.

Last June, Rostelecom introduced a domestic vehicle digital environment management platform. The platform was named Aurora Automotive. Then it was reported that it would become the basis for the Aurora Auto software product, which would support various services and the app store. AvtoVAZ, Itelma and FSUE NAMI were mentioned as partners in the design and development of the system.
