Deptrans of Moscow together with the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation are working on amendments to the legislation, according to which heavy electric scooters and bicycles will be prohibited from moving on sidewalks. Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport, told about this on April 2.

"We are working with the Ministry of Transport to amend the legislation, which says that heavy electric scooters and bicycles that work for courier delivery should be removed from the sidewalks. We believe that they certainly don't belong on the sidewalk. And there are a lot of fair comments from residents of Moscow who feel uncomfortable. And we completely agree with them," Liksutov said in an interview with the Vesti news agency.

In addition, the metropolitan authorities are going to transfer information about traffic violations by couriers on electric scooters and electric bicycles to courier services and the State Traffic Inspectorate. As Liksutov noted, deptrans believes that the maximum speed threshold for this type of transport in the city should be 25 km/h.

Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation to consider the possibility of imposing restrictions on movement on sidewalks on electric bicycles. The deadline for submitting proposals to improve legal regulation is set before July 1 of this year. The Kremlin's website announced the relevant order on March 3.

The new electric scooter and bicycle rental season began in Moscow on April 1, on which day personal mobility equipment (SIM) became available for rental. This season, 60,000 electric scooters, 16,000 electric bicycles, 4,000 improved electric scooters, mechanical bicycles (200 adults and 50 children), as well as new electric scooters assembled at the Moskvich plant will be available for rental in Moscow.
