The Moscow Department of Education has warned about cases of fraud in Minecraft

Scammers find schoolchildren in Minecraft game chats, after which they transfer them to the Telegram messenger and introduce themselves as "cybersecurity officers." This was announced on April 2 by the Moscow Department of Education.

"The attackers started deceiving children through the Minecraft game. Schoolchildren are found in game chats, then correspondence is transferred to Telegram, ostensibly to discuss game moments," says a publication in the department's channel at MAX.

The organization noted that after that, the attackers introduce themselves as "cybersecurity officers", accuse children of passing information to foreign intelligence agencies, threaten with detention, force them to steal money from the family and transfer it to third parties.

Senator Artem Sheikin reported on March 31 that fraudsters have developed and implemented a new scheme by which they deceive gamers, forcing them to install malware allegedly to receive unique bonuses in computer games. A Trojan virus is hidden under the guise of the modifications proposed for installation. After infecting the device, attackers gain access to notifications, SMS messages and, in some cases, to bank applications.

In Russia, a new fraud scheme also appeared in March, targeting citizens who have returned from foreign trips. Scammers convince tourists that during the trip they were in contact with undesirable organizations in the Russian Federation, for which they now face criminal liability and account blocking. To "solve the problem", the victim is offered to transfer funds to a "secure account" or install a special application via a link.
