Latvian activist Elena Kreile, who is being persecuted by the authorities for publicly displaying the Russian flag, revealed details of her criminal cases to Izvestia on April 2.

According to her, she has practically served her sentence for one of the sentences, a cassation appeal has been filed for the second case, and for the third episode, a "trip from the state to a sanatorium" is expected in the near future. Despite the judicial pressure, Kreile stressed that she does not regret her actions and is ready to repeat the phrase "Russia, I am with you."

The activist insists that she has always acted exclusively within the framework of Latvian law, but the court issued guilty verdicts based on assumptions.

"They said themselves: Yes, you are doing everything according to the law, but since we think that you have some kind of intent in your head, we decide that you are guilty," she said.

Kreile herself admits that she never aspired to popularity and did not plan to make her confrontation with the state apparatus public.

"I didn't do [it] initially for the sake of others. I did it for myself personally, for my spirit, for myself," the activist concluded.

The sentence of three years in prison for displaying the Russian flag against Elena Kreile was announced on July 10, 2024. According to the investigation, in the period from March 7 to June 15 last year, in order to publicly express support for Russia, a woman installed a Russian flag in the window with the inscription "God save Latvia" and the flag of the Russian Federation with the signature "[Russian President Vladimir] Putin is my friend."

In July of the same year, Kreile's husband Andrei Krasnoperov revealed the absurd details of her court sentence. According to him, she was sentenced for "cardboard boxes," and the woman's Russian flag always hung with the Latvian one.
