UK opened a criminal case after the collapse of the wall of a kindergarten school on Sakhalin

A criminal case has been opened in the Sakhalin Region on abuse of official authority after the collapse of a kindergarten school wall. This is reported by the regional SU of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

The incident occurred on March 31 in the village of Kirovskoye in the Tymovsky district. Part of the wall of the school, erected in 2023, collapsed. There were no children or adults in the room at the time of the incident, and no one was injured.

On the fact of the incident, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under Article 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Abuse of official authority." During the inspection of the school, investigators found defects on the facade and in the premises.

"It was established that the reason for the discrepancy in the design documentation was poor—quality work performed on the roof, including low-quality wood, reinforced screed and vapor barrier film were missing," the agency said in a statement.

According to SakhalinMedia news agency, the Minister of Construction of the Sakhalin Region and the staff of the Stroynadzor inspection have already completed the inspection of the facility. It turned out that there was no damage to the supporting elements, the collapsed element turned out to be decorative. It will take two weeks to restore it, and other defects will be fixed during the current repair. The work will be financed from the budget, then the authorities intend to demand compensation from an unscrupulous contractor.

On April 2, an independent laboratory began a full inspection of the building. Schoolchildren have been temporarily transferred to distance learning, and places have been found for younger children in another kindergarten.

Earlier, on the fact of violations during the construction of a kindergarten school in the village of Kirovskoye, the Investigative Committee opened a case under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Fraud".
