The village of Novy Opel in the Pskov region was included in the top 10 funniest names of settlements and geographical objects in the country. The list was compiled by Rosreestr, timed to coincide with the Day of Laughter.
Also on the list: the villages of Khokhotui in Transbaikalia and Baldeika in Udmurtia, the farm Veselaya Zhizn in the Kuban, Bolshye Pupsy and Madmenovo in the Tver region, Veselaya Mountain and the Humor River in the Amur Region, Lake Medved Fell in Kamchatka, Krivaya Kosh Island in the Arkhangelsk region.
The Pskov news feed, citing Rosreestr experts, explains that the name often reflects a description of the area where the object or locality is located, as well as its characteristics. In addition, the names may be related to the language of the indigenous population, the natural environment both at the present time and in ancient times.
Earlier, the settlement of Murky Mainland from Komi was recognized as the most cheerful village by name. In the final, he fought with Zabaikalsky Khokhotuy for victory. 100 villages from 83 regions participated in the fight. Two representatives of the Samara region were in the top 10 at once.
