The expert assessed the risks of a US military attack on Iran

The United States continues to increase its military presence near Iran, but a direct attack on the country is fraught with serious consequences. This was announced on April 2 by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia Alexander Maryasov at the Izvestia News Center at a round table on the topic "Dynamics of conflict in the Middle East: scenarios and forecasts."

According to Maryasov, Iran continues to respond to Israeli strikes, while the United States is pulling naval forces, including amphibious assault units, to the Iranian shores. The expert noted that the scenario of an attack on Iran is being actively discussed in the expert and media community, with the suppression of the country's maritime communications among the top priorities.

At the same time, the ambassador drew attention to the contradictory signals from the American leadership. According to him, US President Donald Trump has so far refrained from making direct statements about the impending strike. Maryasov regarded the rhetoric of the American leader, including the words about victory and Iran's return "to the Stone Age", as not meaning a final abandonment of the attack. However, he admitted that political common sense deters Trump from such a radical step: such actions could have domestic political consequences for him, including the threat of impeachment.
