- The Ministry of Industry and Trade pointed to the restrained recovery of the car market
The car market in Russia is recovering modestly, and sales of domestic cars are steadily growing. This was announced on April 2 by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov on the sidelines of the International Transport and Logistics Forum.
"So far, we see a very restrained recovery in the market as a whole and more confident growth in sales of Russian equipment. We will work to at least keep up with last year's figures," TASS quoted him as saying.
According to Alikhanov, much will depend on further steps in monetary policy, actions in the field of car loans and budgetary opportunities for the implementation of demand stimulation programs.
Sales of new cars in Russia from the beginning of the year to March 25 exceeded 272 thousand units, which is 2% more than the same period last year, the minister added. At the same time, the Russian—made car market exceeded 164,000 units, which is 14% more than the results of the same period in 2025.
Alikhanov also did not rule out that in the future, the agency may oblige manufacturers to install a Russian operating system (OS) in domestic cars.
"Aurora (Russian mobile OS) is undoubtedly the future we should be heading towards. — Ed.) or any other operating system that will meet the requirements, including cybersecurity," he explained.
According to the results of the last full week of March (the 13th of the year), sales of new passenger cars in Russia showed another record since the beginning of the year. According to Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, 28.6 thousand cars were sold, which is 19% more than a week earlier and 36.5% more than in the same period last year. In addition, almost 1.3 thousand light commercial vehicles (-9%), 1,063 trucks (+6.2%) and 208 buses (-6%) were sold during the week.
