If the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, had decided to withdraw troops from the territory of Donbass, this would have opened up prospects for resolving many issues. This was announced on April 1 by Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

"If he had decided to withdraw troops, and then we would have checked that he had withdrawn troops, then, of course, there are prospects for resolving many issues," Ushakov told IS Vesti, his words are quoted in the Telegram channel of the publication.

He noted that such a step would also allow considering the issue of cessation of hostilities.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that Zelensky "should make a decision today" on the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the territory of Donbass beyond the administrative borders of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). He stressed that such a step by Kiev could have prevented the death of a large number of people and stopped active hostilities.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, in turn, said that Zelensky "does not want" to withdraw troops from the territories of Donbass. He also noted that the United States is working to get Ukraine to agree to compromises with Russia.
