News is becoming an important source of information for preparing high school students for exams, helping them form arguments and navigate current topics. This was reported to Izvestia on April 2 by analysts of the Zen platform based on the results of the study.

According to the survey, 58% of schoolchildren use examples from the news when writing essays on Russian language and literature. Another 27% read such materials in order to better understand modern topics and form their own position, while 15% prefer to rely only on classical literature.

Students pay special attention to the news about the Unified State Exam itself. Thus, 34% regularly monitor changes in exams and expert recommendations, another 41% do this from time to time, and a quarter of respondents are not interested in such information.

Analysts noted that news content has different effects on the emotional state of students. For 25%, it increases anxiety before exams, while 45% of respondents, on the contrary, feel calmer, better understanding what to expect. For 30% of schoolchildren, such materials do not have a noticeable effect.

Educational websites are the leading sources of information, which are chosen by 36% of respondents. Classical literature ranks second with 26%, and news platforms are third (22%). This is followed by social media (14%) and expert comments (8%).

Most often, schoolchildren turn to news on social topics — 33% of respondents choose them. Materials about technology and science (27%), culture and art (22%) are also in demand.

At the same time, 38% of respondents double-check information in several sources before using it in their essays, 29% focus on large publications, 21% trust materials if they seem plausible, and 12% do not check sources at all.

On March 30, Maria Todorova, a child psychologist and consultant on children's education, told Izvestia that the introduction of a formalized assessment of behavior in the school system requires a special approach that takes into account not only discipline, but also the psychological aspect. According to her, the assessment of behavior remains subjective, since the interpretation of criteria depends on the personality of the teacher, his expectations and the level of professional training.
