- Aeroflot actually compensated for the lost traffic volumes in the UAE at the expense of Asia
The reorientation of the Russian airline Aeroflot to Asian countries actually compensated for the loss of passenger traffic to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East. This was announced on April 1 by the company's CEO Sergey Alexandrovsky.
According to Alexandrovsky, in March the airline planned to transport about 68 thousand passengers to the UAE.
"Immediately, we started thinking about how to replace our volumes, which were planned for the Middle East, with other markets. <… > But in just a few days, we made a decision by rescheduling our schedule and reorienting the vessels to the markets of Thailand, China, and Vietnam, and actually compensated for the volumes that we planned to transport to the United Arab Emirates," the company's CEO said in an interview with the Vesti News Agency.
At the same time, the sale of Aeroflot tickets in the UAE has been suspended until the end of May this year. The company has also now redirected its flights to airports in the Asia-Pacific region.
Dmitry Vakhrukov, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Economic Development (MAYOR) of the Russian Federation, noted on March 24 that the UAE, Oman and Qatar had expressed concern about the suspension of the tourist flow from Russia amid the Middle East conflict. He added that these countries are not actually parties to the conflict.
On March 16, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) notified that Russian tour operators had completed the export of all Russian tourists vacationing in the UAE on package tours. It was noted that at the time of the escalation of the conflict on February 28, there were about 50 thousand Russian tourists in the UAE.
