In 2026, it is planned to resume the assembly of GAZ cars in Cuba and open a trading house for their sale. Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Chairman of the Russian government, said this at a plenary session of the intergovernmental Russian-Cuban commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation, TASS reported on April 1.

Chernyshenko reported in April 2025 that the trading house for the sale of GAZ cars was in the process of registration in Cuba.

In October 2018, it became known that the GAZ Group launched the assembly production of GAZ and Ural cars in Cuba.

Automotive production at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant (UAZ) in Cuba has been suspended. The company said on March 25 that this was primarily due to severe restrictions on electricity supply on the island.
