The expert found similarities between motorists from Russia and China
Motorists from Russia and China share a common interest in the Geely Monjaro crossover. Last year, it became the most popular gasoline car in the SUV segment in China, and it is also in high demand in the Russian market. However, the opposite situation has developed for many other models, said automotive expert Alexander Kovalev.
The specialist noted that many Chinese models that are popular in Russia are not in demand on the domestic market. Crossovers such as the Haval Jolion, Chery Tiggo 7L and others in China have always been considered "simple" models for the provinces, and the Jolion quickly left the local market because it was coldly received, the expert noted.
"It seems that the fact that Monjaro turned out to be successful and generally suitable for all markets played a role here," the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper quoted Kovalev as saying on April 1.
He explained that in China, electric vehicles and hybrids account for almost half of new car sales. The price of electrified cars there is often about on par with gasoline-powered odnoklassniki. And due to comfortable loan rates and low inflation, cars are usually changed with enviable regularity, Kovalev said.
On March 19, the revived Volga car brand presented its first model, the Volga K50 crossover. Sales are scheduled to start in the summer of 2026. The Volga K50 is based on the Chinese Geely Monjaro crossover, which has received new options.
