Football player Fyodor Smolov spoke about the phone attacks that began after a criminal case was opened against him. He clarified that unknown people had called him with threats and extorted money. This was announced on April 1 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

"After this incident, there were people who wanted to cash in on this situation and said they were personally acquainted with the victim. I've received threats from them over the phone and via messengers," the footballer said.

According to Smolov, after he made direct contact with the victim, the calls and messages stopped.

Earlier that day, the judicial district of Justice of the Peace No. 418 postponed the consideration of the criminal case against Smolov until April 3. The day before, lawyer Varvara Knutova reported that the football player had entered into a settlement agreement with the victim. She also stated that the athlete had paid the victim 4 million rubles.

The incident occurred on May 28 last year at an establishment on Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street in Moscow. A video has spread online showing Smolov getting into an altercation with two visitors, and then attacking them with his fists.

In September 2025, a criminal case was opened into the incident. One of the victims was diagnosed with fractures of the lower jaw and the wall of the eye socket.
