Some affiliated marketplace banks may become systemically important in two or three years. This was announced on April 1 by the head of the Central Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina.

"We will take into account, among other things, the role of banks in the payments market and their integration into the ecosystem. According to our assessment, in two or three years, maybe individual "subsidiaries" of marketplaces can get into systemically important banks, taking into account the speed of their development," said the head of the Central Bank.

She added that the Central Bank imposes stricter requirements on financial institutions that have systemic consequences. According to Nabiullina, the establishment of such "systemically important" banks will indicate the leveling of competition in the banking sector.

Wildberries founder Tatiana Kim, in a letter to the Central Bank, the government of the Russian Federation and the Federal Assembly published on November 25, 2025, cited data that the net income of the five largest Russian banks in the first nine months of 2025 amounted to almost 2 trillion rubles, while three banks owned by Internet sites earned 79 billion rubles. According to her calculations, the resources of marketplaces are 24 times less than those of large banks.

Izvestia reported on February 18 that participants in the banking market had become closer to a compromise in the dispute between credit institutions and marketplaces. More and more parties support the Central Bank's concept of moving to an open model in which any bank will be able to offer customers discounts on universal terms.
