Zakharova accused the West of interfering in the Hungarian elections
Western countries are interfering in Hungary's elections. This was announced on April 1 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on Western media publications of telephone conversations between Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
According to the diplomat, Russia has been facing accusations of election interference for 10 years, but no evidence has been presented.
Instead, Zakharova noted, the expulsions of diplomats, sanctions and arrests of Russian compatriots followed. Now the West has begun to interfere in the elections of its own allies and partners, she added.
"Yesterday, on March 31, the whole world received evidence that the West was interfering in the elections," Zakharova said on Sputnik radio.
The Politico newspaper reported on March 30 that the European Union is considering the possibility of moving to more aggressive law enforcement measures against Hungary, including a complete refusal to pay funds from the pan-European budget. It is noted that the reason was the refusal of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to approve the allocation of a loan to Ukraine.
On March 29, Szijjarto pointed to Ukraine's desire to bring Tisza to power in Hungary. For this, he added, the interested party is ready to do anything, starting from wiretapping the phones of civil servants and ending with death threats.
