What happened. Chronology of events

On March 31, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that at around 18:00 Moscow time, during a scheduled flight over the Crimean peninsula, communication with the AN-26 was lost. It was separately noted that there was no damaging effect on the aircraft.

Search and rescue teams were sent to the suspected area of the accident.

Already on the night of April 1, the ministry said that 29 people died as a result of the crash of a transport plane — 23 passengers and six crew members. A commission of the Russian Ministry of Defense and a search and rescue team were involved at the scene.

Causes and circumstances of the disaster

According to preliminary information, the cause of the disaster was a technical malfunction.

On the same day, a source who was near the scene of the incident said that the plane, flying over the Crimea, crashed into a rock.
