An invasion of aggressive ticks is expected in Siberia due to temperature fluctuations. On April 1, Yulia Ermolaeva, an infectious disease specialist and an employee of the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies at Novosibirsk State University, told about this.

"When temperatures fluctuate, ticks become more active and aggressive: when it warms, they come out and actively search for food, when it gets cold, they do not die, but hide back in the litter (a layer of fallen leaves, grass and other vegetation on the soil surface. — Ed.), continuing to consume energy," the expert shared in an interview with TASS.

Ermolaeva added that the snowy winter provided a high population of ticks this season, and the warming forced them to actively search for food.

The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, announced on March 28 that there is no risk that African ticks of the genus Hyalomma, better known as mutant ticks, will take root in central Russia. According to her, additional vaccinations are not required in this region. Popova reminded that due to the early and warm spring, when going out into nature, protective measures should be observed: wear closed clothes, take care of children and animals, and after a walk, examine them and yourself.
