Russians were told about their dismissal for inappropriate jokes
An employer can fire you for joking on April 1 if they offend or interfere with work. This was announced on April 1 by Maria Kutarova, Associate Professor of the Department of Business, Labor and Corporate Law at the Presidential Academy.
"If a "joke" violates internal regulations, business ethics, contains insults, undermines the reputation of the company or interferes with work, the employer has the right to apply disciplinary action — a remark or reprimand. In some cases, more serious consequences are possible, including dismissal, if it is a gross violation of duties," Kutarova said in an interview with TASS.
The expert noted that joking at work is not prohibited, but it is important not to get personal and not humiliate people on one basis or another.
On March 31, Dmitry Kofanov, a labor law lawyer, told us when a joke in a work chat becomes a reason for a court case. He warned that an unsuccessful joke at work could result not only in dismissal, but also in court proceedings, so it is important to observe subordination. According to him, if a joke violates boundaries and is directed at a supervisor, the employer has the right to demand an explanation, and an explanatory note may be the first step towards disciplinary action.
