Svetlana Zakharova, People's Artist of Russia, Prima Ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre, spoke about the differences between the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theaters on March 31 in an interview with Channel Five, as well as what makes Russian ballet unique.

Zakharova noted that during her time at the theater, two stages can be distinguished: before and after reconstruction. According to her, the old building had a special aura.

"Sometimes, you know, it even felt like in the evening, when the lights went out, when all the colleagues were already going home after the performance, and you were the last one to leave, because the performance ends later, and while you were packing up, while you were resting, you walked past the stage and it was kind of creepy," the ballerina recalled..

After the reconstruction, according to Zakharova, the stage became different, but gradually the theater gained a new lease of life. Speaking about the comparison of the Bolshoi and the Mariinsky Theaters, the artist noted that the Bolshoi stage requires a different emotional presentation.

"The stage of the Bolshoi Theater requires a different emotional presentation, a different filling. The stage is much bigger, the auditorium is much bigger, bigger, fiercely," she explained.

Zakharova admitted to Izvestia on March 28 that her first appearance on stage was a huge event in her life. She also stated that the Bolshoi Theatre has a special aura and energy.
