The lawyer warned about the consequences of jokes in work chats
Dmitry Kofanov, a lawyer in labor law, told us when a joke in a work chat becomes a reason for a court case.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Tuesday, March 31, he warned that an unsuccessful joke at work could result not only in dismissal, but also in court proceedings, so it is important to observe subordination. According to him, if a joke violates boundaries and is directed at a supervisor, the employer has the right to demand an explanation, and an explanatory note may be the first step towards disciplinary action.
He noted that it is almost impossible to formalize such situations in the rules, since the boundaries of what is acceptable remain blurred, and in any case, the employer may have a formal reason for claims. At the same time, the expert added, when applying penalties, it is important to take into account the severity of the offense, proportionality and the principles of humanism.
Russians complained of burnout and fatigue due to correspondence in work chats. According to a study reviewed by Izvestia on March 22, half of the respondents reported that constant notifications make it difficult to separate work and personal space. And every fourth person checks their messages after work and even on vacation.
