The United States will continue to launch even more intense strikes against Iran if the Islamic Republic does not reach a deal with Washington. This was announced on March 31 by the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth.

"The coming days will be crucial. <...> If Iran is wise, it will make a deal," CBS News quoted him as saying at a press conference.

The head of the military department pointed out that US President Donald Trump is ready for an amicable agreement, and the Iranians are well aware of the terms of such a deal. According to him, the Pentagon's firepower is increasing, while the strength of the Iranian military is weakening.

"Iran knows this, and there is practically nothing it can do about it militarily," Hegseth said.

The New York Times (NYT) reported on March 29, citing US military sources, that several hundred US special forces soldiers had arrived in the Middle East, but they did not yet have clear tasks. The special forces joined the 2.5 thousand Marines and 2.5 thousand sailors who are already in the region.

The chairman of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said at the same time that the US representatives, who were publicly sending signals to Iran with an alleged invitation to negotiations on a settlement, were in fact secretly planning a ground operation in the Islamic Republic.
