The expert explained the reasons for the refusal of Chinese car owners from old brands
Some Russians who have abandoned German and Japanese cars in favor of Chinese ones say they no longer want to return to the "old" brands, and they are completely satisfied with the products of brands from China. As explained by Andrey Kogan, the founder of the All-China company, chairman of the Committee for work with China of the Association of Exporters and Importers, this is due to the rapid penetration of new technologies into cars.
"The main factor in this "no return" was the digital leap effect, which can be compared to the transition from a push-button phone to a modern smartphone. European and Japanese automakers have been teaching us deep conservatism for decades, doling out new technologies in microscopic doses," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Kogan as saying on March 31.
The expert said that previously, when buying Chinese foreign cars, such options as adaptive cruise control and seat ventilation had to be paid large amounts, and multimedia systems resembled interfaces from the early two thousandth. At the same time, Chinese car companies have taken the path of technological dumping, and the modern mid-range crossover has many features that European cars could not offer. Chinese brands are successfully exploiting the concept of "excessive comfort," the specialist noted.
"The user gets used to the high level of service inside the machine so quickly that an attempt to return to the "Spartan" functionality of European analogues is perceived as a painful social downgrade," Kogan said.
He also drew attention to the fact that many Russians switch to "Chinese" due to official service and warranty, an increase in the quality of machine construction and assembly, as well as for bold design.
Earlier, on March 26, it was reported that Skoda announced its withdrawal from the Chinese market by mid-2026, unable to compete with local companies. By the end of 2025, the volume of Skoda sales in the local market decreased to only 15 thousand cars. Over the past few years, local companies such as BYD and Geely have surpassed Volkswagen in terms of sales, ending its long-term dominance.
