The Government of the Russian Federation has approved an updated list of road activities in 2026-2031. It stipulates that in the next six years, more than 2,000 km of federal and regional roads will be built and reconstructed in the country as part of the National Infrastructure for Life project. The order approving the plan was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, according to the government's website on March 31.

The plan provides for the continuation of work on the construction and reconstruction of highways that make up the backbone network. These include such highways as M-2 "Crimea", M-7 "Volga", M-8 "Kholmogory", M-9 "Baltia", R-21 "Cola", R-22 "Kaspiy", R-217 "Kavkaz", R-255 "Siberia", P-258 "Baikal", P-280 "Novorossiya", A-121 "Sortavala", A-181 "Scandinavia", A-370 "Ussuri".

It is planned to implement road construction projects that are included in the master plans for the development of cities in the Far Eastern Federal District and the Arctic zone, and restore roads in new regions. The list also includes new measures on federal highways, including the construction of bypasses of the cities of Orenburg, Slyudyanka, Baikalsk, reconstruction of sections of the M-5 Ural, R-254 Irtysh, R-504 Kolyma and comprehensive landscaping.

In addition, the plan includes projects on roads of regional, inter-municipal and local importance for the construction and reconstruction of roads bypassing settlements, the creation of tourist infrastructure, and the development of the urban road network. It is planned to bring highways of federal and regional importance to a standard state. The total amount of federal funding for the events will amount to 9.1 trillion rubles.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said on March 4 that all plans for road construction in Russia for 2025 had been completed, with a total of 28,000 km of roads built, repaired and reconstructed. He noted that the work on regional and inter-municipal roads was completed by 57% against the 55% plan. In addition, the share of highways that are part of the backbone network has been completed by almost 76% against the planned 70.5%.
