Italy has refused permission for American military aircraft heading to the Middle East to land at a base in the city of Sigonella in Sicily. This was reported by the Corriere della Sera newspaper on March 31.

"The flight plan of the American planes was drawn up without prior agreement with Rome and was sent to local authorities after the American planes took off," the article says.

As the newspaper pointed out, an inspection conducted by the Italian military showed that the flights were not planned and were not logistical, which means they went beyond the existing agreements between the United States and Italy in the field of air services.

Earlier, on March 30, Spain closed its airspace to military aircraft involved in strikes against Iran. The ban will not apply to emergencies that may require the use of Spanish airspace. However, it was noted that the Spanish authorities are having difficulty closing the airspace in the Strait of Gibraltar area, as it is the only international transit route, and Madrid does not have the authority to block this air corridor.
