April 2 marks the 110th anniversary of Oleg Lundstrom's birth. In honor of this date, a photo exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of the Soviet and Russian jazzman will be opened on Nikitsky Boulevard.

The photo exhibition was prepared by the Moscow Directorate of Mass Events, a subordinate institution of the Moscow Department of Culture, together with the Oleg Lundstrom State Chamber Orchestra of Jazz Music. Visitors to the outdoor exhibition will learn about the creative path of the king of Russian jazz from his first acquaintance with this musical direction to the creation of his own orchestra, which has gained worldwide fame.

"One day in Harbin, I went to a record store to buy new products of the then fashionable foxtrot. And what do you think, the record I bought with the recording of the American Duke Ellington orchestra, which is still unknown to anyone, turned my life around. It was this
in 1934. I got sick with Ellington's. I wanted to create something similar-a collective one," the musician wrote.

Oleg Lundstrem was widely known as a composer, conductor and arranger. He wrote jazz compositions "Mirage" (1947), "Lilac Blossoms" (1955), "Impromptu" (1957), "Song without Words" (1960), "We are Together Again" (1969), "In the Mountains of Georgia" (1973), "Roads of Love" (1975), "Speedway" (1980), "Dawn has Come" (1984), as well as chamber instrumental and vocal cycles.

The photo exhibition will feature unique archival photographs of the musician in his youth, during which Oleg Leonidovich was just beginning to experiment with music, and in adulthood, when his works became an important component of the jazz scene, and the press dubbed Oleg Lundstrom "The King of Jazz in the Far East."

At the exhibition, guests will also learn how the Oleg Lundstrem State Chamber Orchestra of Jazz Music preserves the continuity of the great traditions laid down by the Maestro, while at the same time boldly exploring new formats.
