The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation is implementing the task of reducing the use of VPNs, while the agency "categorically does not like the idea of introducing administrative responsibility for the use of virtual networks." This was announced on March 30 by the Minister of Digital Development of the Russian Federation Maksut Shadaev in a letter to the association "We are IT".

"Firstly, the Ministry of Finance is an executive authority, and we are obliged to implement the tasks assigned to us. In this case, the task is to reduce the use of VPNs," he said.

Shadaev noted that for a long time they tried to negotiate with foreign platforms that were banned on meeting legislative requirements. However, such contacts did not bring results.

"It took a long time, it was difficult, to no avail. Unfortunately," the minister stated.

Anton Gorelkin, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, said on March 25 that the State Duma was not discussing the possibility of introducing a complete ban on the use of VPN services in Russia. He noted that many services comply with the legislation of the Russian Federation and are a necessary tool for the corporate sector.

Igor Bederov, head of the T.Hunter Investigation Department, said on March 24 that fraudsters could use VPN services as a tool to intercept user data and gain access to bank accounts. According to the expert, users should not treat the software as a "magic button", as the services act more as intermediaries.
