Kiriyenko called Kaliningrad region the tourist capital of Russia
Kaliningrad region has become the tourist capital of Russia today. This opinion was expressed on March 30 by Sergey Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, at a meeting of the organizing committee for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the region.
"Today, the Kaliningrad region has definitely become the tourist capital of Russia. People from all regions of our country come to the Cantata International Classical Music Festival, to gastronomic festivals, and just to see the unique nature and architecture of the Kaliningrad Region," Kiriyenko said.
According to him, preparations for the anniversary of the region should not only pay tribute to the history of its liberation and rebirth after the Great Patriotic War (WWII), but also demonstrate the modern achievements of the region. Kiriyenko stressed that during the anniversary events, special attention should be paid to WWII veterans, participants in the special military operation (SVO) and veterans of labor who restored the region.
He also added that the upcoming anniversary is aimed at the younger generation, as the holiday is inextricably linked with the future development of the territory. The program of events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the region was presented at the meeting by the Governor of the Kaliningrad region Alexey Besprozvannykh.
Analysts of the OneTwoTrip travel planning service reported on the same day that Krasnodar Krai became the most sought-after vacation destination in Russia in the summer of 2026, increasing the share of bookings and the average duration of trips. The second place was taken by St. Petersburg, whose share decreased to 17%. Despite this, interest in the destination remains stable, and the average length of stay has increased to 4.3 days.
