Thai authorities have introduced regulations allowing sellers to refuse to purchase alcoholic beverages if they are intoxicated. This was reported on March 30 by the Thai newspaper Prachachat with reference to the Royal Gazette.

"It is advisable to establish criteria and methods for checking for intoxication so that sellers of alcoholic beverages can check the state of intoxication of individuals as necessary and appropriate," the publication cites a government decree.

According to the innovations, a person will be considered intoxicated if, after drinking alcohol, his coordination of movements is impaired, he has difficulty maintaining balance and speech is disconnected, and his behavior may pose a danger to himself or others. In this case, the purchase of alcoholic beverages will be refused. To verify the buyer, sellers may offer to take one of the provided "tests".

The seller has the right to ask the buyer to close his eyes and touch the tip of his nose with his finger. If the miss is more than one centimeter, the test will not be passed. Another test requires taking 10 steps in a straight line and returning back, stepping from heel to toe. Another test is that those who wish to buy alcohol may be required to stand on one leg for 30 seconds, raising the other at least 15 cm from the floor.

On December 8, 2025, Bloomberg reported that Saudi Arabia intends to relax alcohol sales rules by allowing non-Muslim foreigners with a monthly income of at least 50,000 rials ($13.3 thousand) to shop at the only alcohol store in Riyadh. It is noted that the measures are aimed at increasing the tourist attractiveness for non-Muslim tourists.
