The lawyer spoke about the paid services of wedding salons
Wedding salons can only charge for additional services such as stylist consultations, VIP escorts, and individual sessions, but not for the dress fitting itself. Ilya Rusyaev, the founder of the Rusyaev Club business community and lawyer, told Izvestia about this on March 30.
As the expert noted, the fee for fitting a wedding dress is contrary to the law on consumer protection. The official explanation from Rospotrebnadzor states that the buyer has the right to inspect the product, choose the appropriate option and not pay for the fitting, as this is part of the product selection process.
"There is no wording "fitting is free" in the law itself, however, one thing clearly follows from the totality of existing norms. The buyer has the right to inspect the product, get reliable information about it and choose the appropriate option without additional payments," he said.
According to him, trying on a dress is the way to choose a product. However, paid additional services such as stylist consultations or VIP escorts are allowed. But since September 1, 2025, new rules have come into force: consent for any additional services must be provided in writing, and it is the salon that must prove the existence of this consent. Any attempts to impose a paid service, such as demanding payment for a stylist, will be considered a violation.
If you try to take money for a fitting, the lawyer advises you to immediately fix the violation: take pictures of the ads, price lists, conditions of entry on the website, and also keep correspondence with the salon. You can also record a conversation with the administrator, as audio and video recordings are acceptable as evidence in court. In the case of charging money for fitting, it is necessary to make a written claim, on one copy of which the salon must mark the delivery.
"Salons should also consider the financial implications. For the imposition of additional services, the Administrative Code provides for fines from 50,000 to 150,000 rubles for officials and from 200,000 to 500,000 rubles for organizations. These amounts were increased by federal law No. 561-FZ dated December 29, 2025, so savings on paid fittings can be much more expensive," the expert concluded.
Rusyaev said on March 15 that the main mistake of couples is that they often take out consumer loans to organize a wedding, which leads to financial difficulties.
