Russia has worked very effectively in the context of supporting Cuba by securing the passage of an oil tanker. Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, told about this on Monday, March 30.

"We literally put the United States in front of a choice: either go for a very serious escalation and try to seize our tanker, but in this case the Americans will definitely have no chance of negotiating with our country on Ukraine, Iran, or other areas, or accept the fact that our tanker reaches the shores of Cuba."— the expert said in an interview with the Mail News.

He added that this strategy had worked: for the first time in a long time, the energy blockade had been breached. At the same time, the volume of supply — about 730 thousand barrels of oil — is not able to completely solve the crisis, he believes.

"But Latin American countries, Mexico, which can supply oil as part of humanitarian aid to Cuba, can follow our example. This is a very good precedent, which in the future may really allow Cuba to return to the normal functioning of the economy," the political scientist noted.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that a Russian tanker with a shipment of petroleum products had arrived in Cuba to ensure the operation of the island's life support systems. 360.ru .

He stressed that Russia considers it its duty not to stand aside and provide necessary assistance to Cuba. Life.Ru .

On February 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was calling on the United States to refrain from plans to impose a naval blockade on Cuba, as such steps could seriously destabilize the situation in the region. He added that Russia will consistently continue to support Cuba in protecting its sovereignty and security.

The New York Times newspaper added on March 30 that the United States would allow a Russian oil tanker to enter the waters of Cuba, despite the previously announced energy blockade of the island. The tanker with about 730,000 barrels of oil was located a few miles from Cuban territorial waters. The American Coast Guard could have already intercepted this vessel, but the authorities did not give such an order.
