Two commercial vessels belonging to the Chinese company COSCO Shipping successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported on March 30 by The New York Times (NYT), citing data from the MarineTraffic platform.

According to the monitoring portal, the passage of Chinese vessels was "the first confirmed crossing of the Strait of Hormuz by a large container ship since the beginning of the conflict." MarineTraffic added that a successful transit could "signal a potential change in conditions for commercial shipping."

It is noted that the passage of Chinese ultra-large-capacity container ships was recorded at noon Moscow time. Both vessels have entered the Gulf of Oman and are reportedly heading to Malaysia.

Chinese container ships COSCO Shipping — CSCL Arctic Ocean and CSCL Indian Ocean left the port of Al Ramsa in the UAE on March 28. They headed towards the Strait of Hormuz for a second attempt to cross it. According to media reports, the first attempt was recorded on March 27, but then the ships changed their route and returned to the Persian Gulf.

Ali Reza Tangsiri, commander of the Naval Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said on March 24 that the IRGC forces deployed a container ship due to non-compliance with protocols and lack of permission for passage. He recalled that the passage of a frontal vessel through this waterway requires full coordination with Iran to respect the country's maritime sovereignty.
